Droopy on Philly radio!!

Peace, y'all! It's the notorious knucklehead, the duke of debauchery, the tectonic teacher, the pugilistic poet DROOPY, sending a special message to all my Philly area peoples. (And non-Philly peoples with friends in that area.)

You may have heard that renowned DJ Colby Colb from Philly 103.9 has taken a particular liking to a certain track from my new CD "Slamboozled: The Vitreous Humour LP". The song is called "Teachin'", and it is a spoof of the song "Grindin'" by The Clipse. Colby played the jawn during his popular radio program at about 3:00 yesterday afternoon, and mad Philly heads have been emailing me with love.

So my Philly peoples, what I want y'all to do is....KEEP THAT JOINT IN ROTATION!! Call Colby and bug the hell out of him. Request "Teachin'" by Droopy. If the phone is busy when you call, TRY AGAIN! Let's take this joint to the next level!

I want to thank you all for your continued support of Broke Baller Enterprises and Fifth Element. Happy holidays to you all!

Droopy

P.S. And big shouts and congratulations to my Fifth L fam KOMPLEX and SIR REIGNS who were just confirmed as Def Poetry Jam finalists!

LAST "SPIT DAT" OF THE YEAR!!

"Don't patronize me! I'm not as grotesquely stupid as the people you BILK!!" - from the film "Ghostbusters"

..Sorry. Just always wanted to say that. Anyhoot, Broke Ballers and Dat-Spitters, we have reached the end of our inaugural year with the infamous weekly open mic event known as "Spit Dat" at our very own Java Head Cafe (3629 12th Street NE, Wash. DC, corners of 12th and Otis, Thursday nights, 8:30PM until whenever, $4 cover to be exact). And pardon my sounding like a car salesman, but we're celebrating the last event of the year with A HUGE YEAR-END BLOWOUT!!

Dad-blast my stars, first of all, this event will serve as the official DC release party for SOULSTICE CITY MAGAZINE! And the featured poet, armed with his brand spanking new CD (on which yours truly is proud to be featured, thank you), will be Atlanta's own MARC MARCEL!! (We also have another special surprise guest from the ATL, but that's another story...)

NOT ONLY THAT, but we will have featured fire from one of the freaking blazingest poetesses out, repping VA, Louisiana, and the super-crucial ALPHA OMEGA FAM (Aaaayyyyy-oooohhhh, i-ight!) will be the lovely CRYSTALEE!! Who was there the first time she featured at Java Heezy? Fah-getaboutit! No, that's the problem; you CAN'T forget about it!

Due to her altruistic heroism (leaving her own feature to make sure the sistren Michelle was straight last week), I believe Miss DEHEJIA LOVELY owes us a feature. She may ALSO oblige us this Thursday..

And if we cross our fingers and pray for his safe travels, we'll also be blessed with a featured set from North Carolina's own DASAN! He has opened up for Def Poets Black Ice and Georgia M.E., and we look forward to his first visit.

Man, listen: if you NEVER came out to Java Head before, YOU WANT TO COME THIS THURSDAY! And come early, because I'm seriously starting at 8:30 at the latest for once in my life so everybody can get a chance to SPIT DAT! PLEEZBALEEVIT!

I love y'all.
Droopeezy for sheezy.

Spit Dat Is Back!!

What's up, stars? I know y'all have been missing the "Spit Dat" open mic poetry event at the new Java Head Cafe (3629 12th Street NE DC, corner of 12th and Otis, Thursdays, 8:30 PM until..., $4 cover, but of course y'all already knew this) due to Thanksgiving and the wild snow day. But what bammas need to know is:

1) last week, we STILL rocked in the snow with the MESSENJAH and if you missed it, you missed it!

2) this week will be even more BLAZE with Spit Dat's first-ever TRIPLE FEATURE!!! (Three exclamation points: nice touch, eh?)

First of all, get your minds ready for the sun-cypherous moon songs and mellow mermaid musings of Bohemian Caverns' own DEHEJIA MAAT! (Dehejia can be contacted at dehejia_maat@yahoo.com.) This fellow Illpoets.com famstress' feature should be a pleasant treat..

..then we have (actually celebrating his birthday this Thursday) MANIFEST RA (who I can hopefully finagle into doing "Flavalicious" again with MESSENJAH..). (Manifest Ra can be contacted at wholisticallyspeaking@hotmail.com.) A positive and powerful brother who I know you will feel..

..THEN to top it off even more, we have the DC/Baltimore National Slam Team's own, GRANMA DAVE!! Yes, he's still alive. Reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. (Where did that line come from, anyway?) If you have never met up with this cat, you are really in for quite a live ordeal. (By the way, this is the cat who designed and distributed not only my "Slamboozled" CD, but also CDs for Sir Reigns, Komplex, Dri Fish, Queen Sheba, Lamar Hill, Taalam Acey and a host of other dope artists! He can be contacted at granmadave@yahoo.com.)

I do not have to tell you what will happen if you miss this night. You will spend the rest of your life wondering what you missed, agonizing over the experience. It could cause irreparable damage to your psyche. So don't even do it to yourself. Cometh through-eth!!

P.S. Oh, and for my Jersey area heads, definitely come through and support DROOPY and FEMI THE DRI FISH of the group FIFTH L when we feature at Serengeti Plains (615 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, NJ, serengetiplains.com) this Friday, December 13th at 9:00 PM!! On top of that, DROOPY will be performing for the Circle of Care at the Philadelphia Community College, Winnett Building, Great Hall, in Philly on Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 PM!

"You know what I am You know what I do At least I THOUGHT you knew.."
- Pusha T of Clipse from Kelis' "Popular Thug"

What's the deal, Broke Ballers/Ballerinas? It's your ever-lovin' ne'er-do-well Droopy thanking y'all profusely for making my Java Head feature even more huge than I dreamed! Big shots to our guest host Komplex, to Drenica and Lando for the Louisiana love, to Derek and Jay Ross of "The Poet's Joint" for coming through to tape, and to King Cypher of the Alpha Omega fam ("A-yo, i-ight!") for the hot Java Head piece that he bust!

In this context of Thanksgiving, I just want to give thanks for being blessed to host the "Spit Dat" weekly open mic event at Java Head. That place has become my heart. Every Thursday I have something to look forward to, and it's all because of y'all, the Java Head Regulars, for continuing to support with your vibes and energy.

As you know, we'll be off this Thursday for Thanksgiving, but we'll be back in effect next Thursday, December 5, with our featured
artist, that powerful bredren named THE MESSENJAH!! His style is sure to bring a smile to your face. So come through next week, around 8:30 PM, 3629 12th Street NE here in DC, corners of 12th and Otis, near the Brookland-CUA Red Line Metro Station. $4 for the door, but the poetry's free!

Scholar back, youngins! Enjoy the holiday..

Spit: Guess Who's Featuring??

"Only a man whose heart is pure shall obtain the knife. And only a man whose a$$ is narrow can navigate these steps. And if mine's is such an a$$, than I shall have it!" - Eddie Murphy from the film "The Golden Child"

Greetings, Broke Ballers/Ballerinas! I know I haven't sent a newsletter in a blue moon, but I've been so ridiculously busy. First of all, huge big ups to our recent Java Head features: Tim Wells aka "Metaphor", Crystalee, and Liberty, all of whom utterly blazed the spot in their own unique and dynamic ways!

Speaking of Crystalee, homegirl is featuring at Caribbean Delights in Stafford, VA on Friday, December 13th. For more info on that, hit up Phillip Gregory at GA_productions@webtv.net.

And speaking of Liberty, homegirl is having her own blaze show with open mic at Howard University this Thursday, November 21st. Hit her up at decaturred@aol.com for details.

And speaking of November 21st, the only excuse you have for missing Liberty's event is coming to our very own "Spit Dat" at the Java Head Cafe (3629 12th Street NE, Wash. DC, corners of 12th and Otis, 8:30 until whenever, this and every Thursday). And if you just so happen to be able to come through this Thursday, guess who's feature you'll just so happen to catch...

That's right, fam, yours truly Droopy will be the feature this week at the Java Head, celebrating the release of his insane new CD "Slam-boozled: The Vitreous Humour LP"! But wait, you say? How can Droopy be the feature AND the host? Well, guess this calls for a special SURPRISE HOST!!....

So come through, put down your $4 for the door (literally for the door, since it's composed of that rare, expensive material known as Lying-A$$ Fiberglass), and check out an all-new feature of Droopy antics featuring special guests Sir Reigns of the Fifth L and Jali-D the Rapercussionist, with Jay Ross and Derrick of "The Poet's Joint" recording the whole night! (And of course that little matter of a surprise host...) Word!

Scholar back, youngins!

P.S. And if you get this in time, don't forget to check me out featuring at Barnes & Noble in Rockville this Tuesday night (Nov. 19) starting at 7:15!

Spit: KannikiJ!

"I'd buy THAT for a dollar!" - from the film "Robocop"

What's the dilz-nilz, family? It's Droopizzle for shizzle. Yo, just
wanted to let y'all know the goings on with the good old Java Head
Cafe (3629 12th Street, NE, corner of 12th and Otis, Washington, DC,
Thursday nights, 8:30pm until whenever..).

Last week was RIDICULOUSLY blaze! Queen Sheba came through
and "MOOORRRRE than ripped it" as always. That may have been our
biggest night yet. But of course, thanks to y'all support, it keeps
getting better.

Therefore, in that vein, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if
this Thursday night is the sickest ever. I mean, it doesn't hurt that
our feature is "The Wednesday Discussion"'s own KANIKKI J!!! I'm
really looking forward to seeing what the queen has in store for us.
The theme she selected for the week is "Assumptions". Have you ever
made undue assumptions about a friend or mate only to be proven wrong
later? Well, write about it. That's an order! Because that's the
theme for the week.

By the way, you can catch little old me FEATURING tonight at Mango's
(14th and U NW, 8PM) and Wednesday night at Bohemian Caverns (11th
and U NW, 8PM). And of course, that would be as good a time as any to
cop my brand new CD "Slamboozled"! (Personally autographed, of
course.)

My peoples who can make it to Stafford, VA on Saturday nights, it's
definitely worth your while to check out my brother Phillip Gregory's
hot joint at Caribbean Delights, hosted by the queen Telekinesis. I
don't have the address with me right now, but you can email Phillip
at GA_productions@webtv.net for details. Ask Kanikki; the show is HOT!

And don't forget to support the family KOMPLEX, host of the original
Java Head back in the College Park days. My man has some big tings in
the works, with a show this Friday October 4th featuring the hot band
MACGREGOR, BROWNFISH, and more! Friday night in Baltimore, Gallery
409, 409 North Charles Street, 8PM.

Oh yeah, and my little brother SIR REIGNS is holding down his brand
new event, SLAMMIN' SUNDAYS, also at 409, also at 8PM. I went to the
premier with Teressa McCrae, Jahiti, Keturah, DJ Nadir and others
this past Sunday, and it was awesome. SUPPORT!

Okay, I gotta get back to teaching. Scholar back, soldiers.
